Evaluation and Reflection

 27/03/24

I presented my PechaKucha today and it went very well as I got all the points I intended to get. It was a good length and I think I included very valuable information that will give a good idea of my PechaKucha.

These are some of the comments I got for my PechaKucha which i will use in order to reflect on the presentation and improve in the future.

I am going to use these comments in order to improve my presentations in the future. A comment was that I may have sped through my presentation and should've been more slow and detailed which may have made me connect with my audience more.

FMP Evaluation

This is my magazine cover. During my experimentation I made my cover on photoshop and it was very easy and went very well for me. After experimenting I realized that I wanted to make my cover mainly on photoshop as this is the software that I am mostly experienced on and the software that I am best at.

This is my magazine and poster for my final major project. For my FMP I wanted to create a magazine which reflected identity through fashion and clothing. I wanted to create a magazine which teenagers ages 14-18 could read and discover something about themselves which they may not have recognized before and that could effect their life in a deeper way. After many experimentations and time thought about it I chose to create my FMP on clothing as it is something that allows me to express myself and it is something I deeply relate to. During this project I learnt many new things such as different tools, how to use different adobe programs, how to create a functional, legible magazine and also how to use different techniques and methods to make my magazine stand out as much as possible to target a wider audience.

Researching helped me create my magazine as it gave me a successful idea and understanding on what to include in a high quality magazine. I took ideas such as where to place my words, how big to make my headers and text and what colours to make my images in words to maximize the attention grab of my magazine. My main inspiration was 'Vogue' as they are a well knows fashion magazine company and I knew that they had extremely good results in this industry so taking inspiration from them was only going to do my magazine better. I also used my primary research such as my surveys to get a better understanding on the readers point of view to know what to include in my magazine such as certain questions or just getting to know the main taste of the reader which I could appeal to. I focused on targeting my audience by making sure I presented a wide range of famous streetwear brands such as Corteiz, Stussy and more in order to attract the fans and consumers of these brands. These are largely knows streetwear brands so I knew if I showed these brands I could get a large group of my target audience to see and become interested in my magazine. During the production of my magazine I had to research a lot on the topic and the societal issues that big brands cause. From this I learnt how competitive this environment can be and I know have a wider understanding on this topic. I hope that my magazine spreads awareness on this topic and therefore causes consumers to be more careful on the brands that they support and purchase from. I intended my audience to understand the impact they have when purchasing from these large brands and that they know the exact outcome of their actions whether it be a positive or a negative.

Id say my magazine matches with conventions of media elements whilst also slightly challenging them to an extent. I took a large inspiration off of famous magazines such as Vogue and GQ so in those ways they conform to these standards but a couple of my magazine spreads are not seen very often in this industry which could be a way that I challenge these conventions. I like this a lot about my magazine as it makes it stand out from the norm more and makes it more unique but also may not be how most people like their magazines but that's fine. I want my magazine to target a specific audience and I am not just focused on maximizing as many readers as possible.

I have learn from creating this magazine that large magazine brands must take hundreds of hours dedicating their time to studying exactly what the human brain prefers such as certain colours of words to catch the audiences attention. This is a very important but hard skill to master as peoples expectations are always changing as their is no way to make a magazine that everyone will like or enjoy. This means that sometimes you have to go off of what you would like in a magazine or what the target audience you are aiming at would like to see in a magazine in order to try and meet the expectations of the people who you prioritize seeing your magazine.

Overall I think I am very happy with how my magazine turned out and matched my expectations very well. I wanted my magazine to be streetwear related as this is the trending fashion genre at the moment and many young people associate themselves and dress in streetwear in this era therefore I needed to make my magazine cover very streetwear related and something that would catch the viewers attention. I started by downloading my preferred font off of a website named 'dafont'. I downloaded a graffiti font which I thought would look good if I edited it enough to make it look like it was spray painted on a wall. I got my main image off of Pinterest but had the idea of editing it enough to make it my own original image. I used a variety of tools such as the lasso tool to cut out the people on my image to place them over the graffiti. I also used the paint brush tool to add effects such as paint droplets and background shadow to make my text more legible therefore stand out more. Using all these tools definitely developed my graphics design and problem solving skills. If I had more time I definitely would've focused more on smaller details such as creating text more legible and adding more keywords which would help me maintain my viewers attention although I think I did a good job in the time I had. My feedback tells me that I made a product that a large group of the people around me actually enjoyed and say that they would purchase my magazine. But there were minor details that they think I should have worked a little more on such as placement of images and words.
